India's producer Vedanta Resources plans to complete the building of its new 60,000t/yr ferro-chrome plant in Odisha state by December 2022, doubling its overall capacity.
With the construction of the new plant its overall ferro-chrome will be above 140,000t/yr from current output of 75,000-80,000/yr, the company said during its earning calls on October 28.
Vedanta’s ferro-chrome output dropped by 42pc to 11,000t in July-September from a year earlier, due to a shutdown of the furnace for maintenance during the period. Ferro-chrome production during the April-September dropped by 22pc to 29,000t from 38,000t produced a year earlier due to planned maintenance at its plant.
Production costs increased to $1,151/t in July-September, up from $797/t a year earlier, while the April-September cost of production increased to $1,156/t from $759/t earlier.
Ferro-chrome sales in July-September dropped to 16,000t from 19,000/t a year earlier, and sales in April-September dropped to 29,000t from 39,000t sold in that period the previous year.
Chrome ore production in July-September moved up by 43pc to 34,000/t, while April-September chrome ore output also edged up by 18pc to 174,000/t, boosted by operational efficiencies at the mines, Vedanta said. Argus Metals
