[Ferro-Alloys.com] In November 6, the Technological Achievements Assessment Conference, organized by the Chinese Society for Metals, focusing on developments and applications of the laterite low-temperature reduction + grain growing conbined, the world’s latest way to produce ferrous nickel, was hold in Dafeng Port, Yancheng City. In accordance with the national regulatory requirements of transferring achievements in scientific research, the panel, consisted of the chairman and the former chairman of Chinese Academy of Engineering and the director general of the Chinese Society for Metals, etc, was authorized to evaluate the new technology.

After a series of site visiting, trial record checking and international technology retrieving, the panel, in a fair, impartial, open and the principle of seeking truth from facts, claimed that the process has reached the advanced international standard and it’s world leading to smelt ferrous nickel in high-powered microwave facilities.

The low-temperature reduction to process ferronickel will be applied in industrial production while the patent owner decided to corporate with the Heshun Technology Corporation. After a 5- month trial operation, the 0.17-billion project with a capacity of 30,000t 10% ferrous nickel, has met all the regulatory requirements basically. Compared with the traditional process, the new line expected to be energy-saving, environment-friendly and cost-saving. Its smelting temperature decreases to approximately 300 degrees; its power consumption decreases almost 50 percent; and the nickel yield rate can be above 92 percent without a high-temperature molten state.

The process is able to smelt 1.2% laterite nickel economically. Under this process, the CO2 emission can be reduced 2,096 kg, the SO2 emission can be reduced 19.2 kg, the dust emission can be reduced 544 kg. In a word, it’s expected to essentially take the place of the conventional dusty and smoky process and will dramatically promote the economic efficiency and society benefits.

After evaluation and review, the new process provides technical guarantee for the “one belt one road” ferrous nickel programme guided by Dafeng Group in Indonesia and breaks a new ground for the export of equipment package and teconology package, finnaly will be of great importance in implementing industrial transformation after stepping into the period of the 13rd Five-Year Plan.
