German steel producer Thyssenkrupp reports Q2 loss, raises full-year forecast

[Ferro-Alloys.comDespite significantly improving last year's result, German steel producer Thyssenkrupp still reported a net loss of 187 million euros (227.5 million U.S. dollars) for the second quarter (Q2) of 2021.

The company's order intake increased by 14 percent year-on-year and reached 8.6 billion euros. According to Thyssenkrupp, sales in Q2 grew four percent to 8.6 billion euros.

"We know that we still have a lot of work to do," said Martina Merz, chief executive officer (CEO) of Thyssenkrupp AG, in a statement. The company "made up more ground in the second quarter" but the ongoing realignment remained a "journey of many small steps."

With a "generally good demand situation in China," Thyssenkrupp automotive supply business also recovered. Order intake and sales in this sector in Q2 grew nine percent and six percent, respectively, according to the company.

For the current fiscal year, Thyssenkrupp expects "continuing economic recovery." It expects sales to grow in the "low two-digit percentage range" but still remain "clearly below pre-crisis level."
