[Fellow]South Africa's ferrochrome exports increased by 45.1% in the first quarter

[Ferro-Alloys.com] The cumulative export volume of ferrochromium from South Africa was 1,245,700 tons, an increase of 45.10% year-on-year. The top three export countries are: China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates.

Among them, exports to China, the UAE, and Mozambique accounted for 44%, a decrease of 9% from the same period last year; exports to Indonesia accounted for 9%, a decrease of 3% from the same period last year.

Exports to Belgium, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and other European countries accounted for 17%, an increase of 7% over the same period last year. Exports to Japan and South Korea accounted for 24%, an increase of 9% over the same period last year.

It can be seen that the surge in global ferrochrome prices in the first quarter of 2021 was a direct factor that stimulated the sharp increase in South Africa’s ferrochrome exports. However, as the benchmark ferrochrome prices in Europe, Japan, South Korea and other countries are higher than the Chinese market and the demand has increased significantly, The export direction of ferrochrome in South Africa has played a significant role in diversion. Although the proportion of exports to China has declined, it still does not affect its core position as the largest consumer market.
