[Ferro-Alloys.comThe Three Gorges Dam, the world's biggest hydroelectric plant in terms of installed capacity, generated 111.795 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2020, its operator announced, setting a new world record for annual power generation volume from a single hydropower station.

Clean electricity generation for all of 2020 reached 111.795 billion kilowatt-hours as of 12:00 pm Dec 31, smashing the previous world record of 103.098 billion kWh set by South America's Itaipu Dam in 2016, China Three Gorges Corporation said.

According to the provincial department of science and technology and energy administration on Dec 28, Southwest China's Guizhou province will intelligentize coal mining and digging through the application of robots.

The robots will be used for coal mine inspection, transportation, rescues and hazardous operations. By the end of 2025, the robots will be applied in coal bed digging, and Guizhou's coal mine rescue centers will be equipped with more than 10 rescue robots.

Shanxi, a major coal-producing region in north China, has shut down 163 coal mines and eliminated 146.05 million tonnes of annual coal production capacity over the past five years.

The province closed 57 coal mines and cut 30.19 million tonnes of coal production capacity this year, according to the provincial energy bureau. The number of closures hit a record high since Shanxi started cutting outdated coal capacity in 2016.
