Japan’s imports of unwrought cobalt, powder, intermediates and matte in May fall

Japan’s imports of unwrought cobalt, powder, intermediates and matte in May fell to 550 mt, down 21.2% compared to 698 mt in April and down 33.1% from 822 mt in May 2012. Imports from Finland sank to 69 mt compared to 331 mt the previous month and 371 mt the year before. Imports from Canada rose to 165 mt compared to 27 mt in April and 156 mt in May 2012. Imports from Australia were 110 mt, down from 130 mt the prior month and up from 84 mt a year earlier. Imports for the first five months fell to 3,419 mt, down 14.9% from 4,016 mt for the same 2012 period. Imports through May included, among others, 1,419 mt from Finland (1,978 mt in the first five months of 2012); 571 mt from Canada (712 mt); 455 mt from Australia (322 mt); 257 mt from New Caledonia (zero); 180 mt from Zambia (387 mt); and 145 mt from Norway (179 mt).
