China Business News reported that steel mills in South China have started to follow suit following the successive output cutback by leading mills in the North. And Maanshan Steel, the biggest mill in Anhui is to trim output by 20% to support the falling steel prices.

Leading four steel mills in North China, Shandong Iron & Steel, Hebei Iron & Steel, Shougang and Angang have announced last week to curtail production by 20% from October onwards; while Hebei Iron & Steel even declared to cut further 10% to 20%.

China Iron & Steel Association unveiled in its latest report that leading mills in South China like Baosteel and Shagang are mulling to close some production.

Maanshan Steel, with annual crude steel production of 10 million tonnes per year plans to cut crude steel production by 0.25 million tonnes for this month and to shut down a HR production line, a small H-beam line and a rebar process line. The mill aims to close some 0.4 million tonnes of production of the metal next month.
