【Ferro-alloys.com】:Pilbara Ports has continued its strong run of export performance, delivering 55.9 million tonnes (Mt) of throughput in February 2026, up 13 per cent on the same period last year.
The result marks the third consecutive month of record throughput at the Port of Port Hedland, following highs recorded in December 2025 and January 2026, underscoring sustained strength in iron ore exports from Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
Port Hedland accounted for the bulk of the February result, achieving a monthly record of 40.6Mt, including 40Mt of iron ore exports. This represented an eight per cent increase on February 2025.
Pilbara Ports attributed the uplift to targeted operational improvements implemented over the past financial year, including revised vessel movement guidelines for ebb-tide departures, which have created additional sailing opportunities for larger vessels.
These changes, combined with ongoing enhancements to Dynamic Under Keel Clearance (DUKC), have enabled operators to maximise cargo loads and better utilise available shipping windows.
Imports through Port Hedland totalled 168,000 tonnes, down eight per cent year-on-year.
The Port of Dampier also posted strong growth, with throughput reaching 12.5Mt, a 25 per cent increase on February 2025. Imports rose 40 per cent to 131,000 tonnes.
The February result builds on a record December 2025, when Pilbara Ports delivered 71.2Mt – the highest December throughput on record – driven by strong iron ore shipments and steady demand across its operations.
Infrastructure investment is also supporting future growth at Dampier. Pilbara Ports recently awarded a contract for the design and construction of a 57-metre link bridge connecting the Dampier Bulk Handling Facility with the existing cargo wharf.
Part of the broader Dampier Cargo Wharf Projects, the development is aimed at expanding marine capability and establishing a multi-user facility, backed by $115 million in Federal Government funding.
With construction of the bulk handling facility on track for completion in the first half of 2026, Pilbara Ports is positioning Dampier to capture increasing export demand in the years ahead.
