India’s JSW Steel lifts February output by 21pc on year

Indian private-sector producer JSW Steel's output rose by 21pc on the year to 1.58mn t, but dropped by 4pc on the month.
 
Production of flat-rolled products rose by 25pc on the year to 1.15mn t, while that of long-rolled products increased by 8pc to 367,000t. Production of flat and long products dropped by 8pc and 2pc on the month, respectively.
 
The producer's Dolvi plant expansion in Maharashtra state commenced commercial operations in November last year, and operated at an average capacity utilisation of 88pc last month, while the capacity utilisation for rest of its operations was at 98pc. This is compared to 93pc during the same month last year.
 
Domestic finished steel consumption dropped in February by 4.2pc from a year earlier and by 8.8pc against the previous month to 9.2mn t, while exports rose to a five-month peak on robust international demand.
 
The Argus domestic India hot-rolled coil (HRC) index stood at 69,500 rupees/t ($905/t) on 4 March, up by 35pc from a year earlier, while the Argus cfr Asean HRC index was at $895/t yesterday, up by 20pc on the year. (argusmedia.com)
