United States Steel Corporation has announced to delay the construction of new furnaces at its Fairfield plant in Birmingham, Alabama (Fairfield). Because of the competition effect of falling demand for steel and oil and gas industries.
New furnaces with a total investment of US$2.3 billion, along with designed annual capacity of 1.6 million short tons. Originally the company planned to put into production in third quarter of 2015, it will replace the existing blast furnace and converter.
