The US imported 9,918.9 mt of 99-99.99% silicon metal in July and 87,340.2 mt in the first seven months of 2011 vs. 15,006.3 mt and 77,544.7 mt, respectively, in the same 2010 periods. The major suppliers in July (first seven months in parentheses) were: South Africa, 3,110 mt (19,705.3 mt); Brazil, 1,830.6 mt (37,805.2 mt); Canada, 1,061.8 mt (5,246.3 mt); Spain, 1,040 mt (4,509.8 mt); Norway, 998.6 mt (5,984.5 mt); Australia, 902.6 mt (5,662.2 mt); and Thailand, 844.6 mt (4,534.6 mt).
