US silicon metal spot prices have inched up again due to ongoing tightness in domestic supply furled by the Brazilian power crisis, while 2015 contract discussions have begun in earnest.
Silicon spot prices tightened to a range of $1.45 to $1.47 per lb from $1.44 to $1.47 previously, with unconfirmed rumours of business transacted as high as $1.50 per lb, continuing a steady rally since July 2013, when silicon metal was between $1.18 and $1.23 per lb. Spot supply continues to be impacted by the Brazilian power crisis, said market participants.
