China plans to cut on-grid power tariffs to reflect a fall in coal prices, a move that may put more pressure on power generation companies, a newspaper said Aug 7th.
On-grid price of thermal electricity could be cut by around 0.01 yuan (0.16 cents) per kilowatt-hour, the China Times newspaper cited an unidentified source close to the National Development and Reform Commissionas saying.
No deadline has been set for the tariff cut, the report said.
The potential price cut could add over 1 billion yuan losses to big power generators such as Huaneng Power International and Datang in the second half of this year, the newspaper said.
