[Ferro-Alloys.com] Japan's Kyushu Electric and Kansai Electric will each need to secure 1.49 GW of power supply from other utilities to meet summer peak demand and keep their reserve margins above 3%, officials from the utilities said Thursday.

Kyushu anticipates its power demand in August at 16.71 GW and Kansai its demand at 28.73 GW, and both would need to secure 1.49 GW from other utilities to meet that level with a 3% standard operating margin in reserve.

Both utilities have based their demand and supply estimates on the assumption their nuclear power plants will not restart before August.

Kyushu currently has 5.26 GW of nuclear capacity shuttered, and Kansai 9.77 GW.
