[Fellow] Kazchrome closes down manganese mine in Karaganda region due to depletion of reserves

[Ferro-Alloys.com] Transnational Company Kazchrome JSC, part of Eurasian Resources Group, has closed down the Tur Mine, which produced manganese in Kazakhstan's Karaganda region, due to the depletion of reserves in the deposit, Kazchrome said in a press release.

However, Tur Mine will continue processing the ore that was extracted earlier.

"The shutdown of the mine has taken a few years, involving a lot of preparation. In the first place, we needed to deal with personnel matters. To begin with, we optimized the number of personnel with the help of available vacancies, and now we are trying to find jobs for the rest of the personnel within the group," Kazchrome General Director Sergey Prokopiev is quoted as saying.

The remaining personnel are mainly rotational workers that can now be offered jobs at the enterprises of Kazchrome, including Shubarkol Komir JSC, Zhairem Manganese JSC and Donskoy Mining and Processing Plant.

Also, Kazchrome has developed a land reclamation program to restore about 516 hectares that has been affected by the mining operations. The program will be launched in 2024.

Kazchrome operates four business units: Donskoy Ore Mining and Processing Plant in the Aktobe region, Kazmarganets Mining Enterprise in the Karaganda region, Aksu Ferroalloys Plant in the Pavlodar region and the Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant.

Eurasian Resources Group is one of the world's leading diversified mining and smelting groups with fully integrated mining, processing, energy production, logistics and marketing.
