According to data released by the Latin American Steel Association, Latin America produced 67.3 million tonne of crude steel in 2012, falling by 4% from a year ago.
In December alone, Latin America’s crude steel output totaled 6 million tonne rising by 14% year on year and increasing by 5.3% month on month.
Brazil was the largest crude steel producer in Latin America in last December with 3 million tons, increasing by 12% year on year. Meanwhile, Latin America’s finished steel production totaled 57.6 million tonne in 2012, including 26.6 million tonne produced by Brazil, 16.5 million tonne made by Mexico.
