10 persons held for illegal iron ore transport

Times of India reported that police arrested 10 persons, including two persons involved in illegal iron ore mining, for transporting iron ore from Koira.
 
About 30 metric tonnes of iron ore, three trucks and one SUV were seized from them. Police conducted the raid following a tip off about illegal transportation of iron ore by traders from Toda reserve forest area to Rourkela.
 
The four persons travelling in the SUV are Mr Santosh Prasad, Mr Nandalal Prasad, Mr Santosh Pratihari and vehicle owner Mr Mungeswar Sahu. The other 6arrested are Ajit Bara, Sankar Khalko, Habil Kujur, Shyam Thakur, Sudhir Bara and Sandeep Oram.
 
Mr Amaresh Panda, sub-divisional police officer (Bonei), said that "We suspect the iron ore was being transported from some local sponge iron units under Brahamani Tarang police station. We will find out about the source and buyers of the ore."
