[Ferro-Alloys.com] Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Piyush Goyal, has highlighted the government's efforts to protect the domestic steel industry from unfair dumping and irrationally low pricing. At the Steel India 2025 event, he emphasised that India is poised to contribute significantly to global steel demand. He noted that the Indian steel industry is a highly efficient and cost-effective producer of high-quality steel. The government's imposition of a 12% safeguard duty on steel imports is part of its proactive measures to support the industry against unfair trading practices. He added that both exporters and the MSME sector will continue to have access to steel at international prices.
He also stressed India's focus on self-reliance (Atmanirbharta) while maintaining an open approach to global trade. He highlighted that India aims to meet its own growing needs and global demand in a competitive environment. His comments underscore the government's commitment to protecting and growing the steel industry while ensuring international competitiveness.
