Cored wire is a common product used for purifying molten steel. At present, calcium cored wire includes seamless pure calcium cored wire, seamed pure calcium cored wire, alloy calcium cored wire and dual cored wire.

The calculations show that the amount of cored wire decreases with the increase of calcium yield rate and is related to the type of cored wire. There are large differences. With the same yield rate of calcium, the quality score in seamed pure calcium cored wire is higher and consumption advantage is obvious.

Similarly, expense of cored wire decreases with the increase of calcium yield rate and is related to the type of cored wire. There are large differences too. With the same yield rate of calcium, consumption advantage and price of seamed pure calcium cored wire determine its obvious expense advantage.

1.    Cored wire producers and steel enterprises should comprehensively consider various economic indexes when selecting cored wire. It is not necessarily appropriate to obtain higher calcium yield by simply improving the cored wire structure.

2.    Seamed pure calcium cored wire has obvious consumption and expense advantages, but further improvement on its calcium quality score is still needed such as reducing thickness of steel enclosure, increasing diameter of wire rod and compactness of core material.

3.    Alloy calcium cored wire has remarkable expense advantage. It has still market competitiveness after improving calcium quality score in its core material.

It will be an important research direction in future to develop a new type of wire feeding gun, optimize the wire feeding process and greatly reduce the consumption and expense with the aim of 30% calcium yield rate.
