[Fellow]Mitsubishi grants 8 LCEVs, 2 electric cars to government

Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi Motor Company has granted eight low carbon emission vehicles (LCEVs) and two electric cars as well as four charging stations to the Industry Ministry as part of a joint study into the possible development of electric vehicle infrastructure.

The 10 vehicles are eight seven-seater Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and two four-seater electric Mitsubishi i-MiEVs.

“We expect that this joint study will support the expansion of electric vehicles and PHEVs in Indonesia,” Mitsubishi Motors CEO Osamu Masuko told reporters during the vehicle handover ceremony in Jakarta on Monday.

Osamu explained the study would assess the use of electric vehicles and energy use with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Mitsubishi i-MiEV cars.

Industry Minister Airlangga Hartanto said the government supported LCEV industries, which were in line with National Industrial Policy 2015-2035.

“In the roadmap, we have targeted a 20 percent share in the Indonesian automotive market for LCEVs by 2025,” Airlangga said.

Airlangga added the Industry Ministry had discussed incentives for electric cars, including eliminating import duty and reducing the luxury goods sales tax to 5 percent for LCEVs.
