Glencore/Xstrata’s first-quarter cobalt production rose 29% to 4,000 mt compared to 3,100 mt in the first quarter of 2012. Its cobalt production using third-party feed fell to 900 mt in the first quarter compared to 1,100 mt in the year-ago quarter. African cobalt production from Katanga, Mutanda and Mopani was 3,100 mt in the first quarter vs. 2,600 mt in the first quarter last year. Cobalt in concentrate from the Raglan mine in Canada was 200 mt vs. 100 mt the year before, and cobalt metal production from Murrin Murrin in Australia was 600 mt compared to 500 mt in the year-ago quarter.
