[Ferro-alloys.com] Cobalt prices continued to erode. “Producers have material to sell,” said a trader. “This happens at the end of every quarter. Business is good but there is just too much material out there.” Another trader agreed but said that it still is possible to get a premium if a consumer needs a specific grade. “If the buyer isn’t particular, the competition is fierce,” he said. Many suppliers said they opted not to do long-term contracts based on formula pricing. “It would have been too risky,” said a trader, “but at the same time, this is why we have fewer businesses to quote.” There is speculation that the differential between 99.3% Co and 99.8% Co will shrink to nothing because so much 99.8% Co is looking for a home and Russian cobalt is well sold under contracts.
