【Ferro-alloys.com】:Barring the effects of the Middle East conflict and high fuel costs, South Africa’s total mineral sales could reach R995.5-billion for this year, if the trend in mineral sales continues at its current pace, the Minerals Council South Africa says.
It points out that total mineral sales for the four months from January to April increased by R89-billion, compared with the same four-month period in 2025.
Total mineral sales for the four-month period amounted to R332-billion, representing a 36.5% increase compared with the same period in 2025. The largest positive contributors were platinum group metals, gold, chromium ore and coal.
The Minerals Council says the projected increase in corporate taxes by mining yet again proves the relevance of the sector, not only in contributing to government revenue, but also in catalysing sustainable economic growth.
“It is imperative for policymakers to effect enabling policies that would support and attract investment in the mining value chain,” it says.
