Here is production analysis of East Chinese steel mills in the week ending March 15th 2013. The prices below include 17% VAT unless otherwise specified.

Iron Ore
Steelmakers in East China purchased 65pct domestic-produced fines at CNY 1,200 per tonne this week; the purchase price for 63.5% Indian fines came to CNY 1,137 per tonne with a decrement of CNY 65 per tonne from a week earlier.

Based on a general presumption that one tonne pig iron needs 1.6 tonnes domestic-produced concentrates and 1.65 tonnes imported ore, using Chinese made ore and offshore ore would cost CNY 1,920.0 and CNY 1,876.1 to produce one tonne pig iron.

Coke & Coal
East Chinese steel mills' mainstream purchase prices for II grade metallurgical coke was CNY 1,640 per tonne, down CNY 30 and that of pulverized coal injection also declined by CNY 20 per tonne to CNY 1,090 per tonne.

If we presume 1 tonne pig iron needs 400 kg coke and 150 kg PCI, corresponding cost would be CNY 656.0 for II grade metallurgical coke and CNY 163.50 for PCI.
