A revival of century-old steel plant in Serbia

A steel mill in Serbia has been reinvigorated with the help of a Chinese company.
In 2016, China HBIS Group purchased the steel mills for 46 million euros (51.8 million USD). 
In 2018, the plant produced 1.77 million tons of steel, a record high in the 105 years since its birth. The steel mill has also become the country's biggest exporter, and retained the position for three consecutive years until 2020.
The unexpected bond with China has breathed fresh life to the Smederevo factory, not only in production, but also in environmental protection efforts.
The local environmental protection agency has confirmed that the pollution is showing a decreasing trend compared with the previous years.
