Earlier this week, at a meeting in Taranto, Italy, ArcelorMittal's management told local trade unions that blast furnace No. 2 at the former ILVA plant would be restarted in the next few days, the total output of the plant this year is expected to be around 5 million tons, and blast furnace No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 will continue to operate (blast furnace No. 4 is expected to stop maintenance around March or April). Earlier, FIM, fiom, uilm and USB had asked for more detailed information on ArcelorMittal's five-year industrial plan, including expected production in 2021. By 2020, ArcelorMittal Italy's annual production is about 3.4 million metric tons, the lowest level in history.

According to local media reports, the restart of blast furnace No. 2 originally scheduled for January 26 yesterday was slightly delayed due to technical reasons. As previously reported, the daily steel production of Taranto plant will increase from 10000 tons to 14000 tons after the restart of No. 2 blast furnace, which has been idle since last spring.

Meanwhile, due to novel coronavirus pneumonia, all employees of the Taranto plant will start a 12 week temporary layoff from January 4th, which may directly affect up to 8132 employees. According to the company, the epidemic has resulted in a sustained decline in work activity.
