[Ferro-alloys.com] After going through nearly half a year’s recession, the import amount of manganese ore at Qinzhou Port increased a lot. According to Guangxi Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, through the third quarter the import amount of manganese ore at Qinzhou Port reached 0.7678 million tons, increasing by 19.71% compared with Q2, basically equal to the level of Q3, 2014.

Qinzhou Port is the largest distributing center in South China. In 2014, China imported 4.145 million tons of manganese ore, accounting for one third of domestic imported manganese ore amount. Affected by the depressing economy and the excessive inventory, this year the import amount of manganese ore at Qinzhou Port dropped abruptly, decreasing by 50%, compared with last year.

Manganese ore is mainly used in steel smelting and battery production. Some personage thinks that China’s steel production capacity has been consumed for a period. Especially when small backward steel mills are knocked out of the market, some large enterprises have gradually recovered their production capacity and domestic steel price is arising. These factors are contributing to pull up the import amount of manganese ore at Qinzhou Port.

Besides, the improved quality of manganese ore enhanced the traders’ confidence in the imported manganese ore. According to some relevant data, through the third quarter, the unqualified percentage of imported manganese ore in batch, weight and sum at Qinzhou Port has respectively dropped by 60%, 53.17% and 59.67%. While the amount of imported manganese ore was increasing, the unqualified percentage fell obviously. And this means the traders have paid more attention to the quality of manganese ore.

Guangxi Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau stated that it will strengthen the inspection and regulation of imported manganese ore and inform relevant departments and domestic enterprises of the information on the unqualified imported manganese ore. Meanwhile, it will advise the enterprises to take the certifications of CIQ as the evidence of handover, settlement and claim for compensations during the negotiations and making the details about settlement and compensations in the contract. All these moves will help the enterprises to protect their legal interests.
