SÖDERBERG PASTE (ELECTRODE PASTE) :  In submerged electric arc furnaces, as the electrodes are submerged inside a huge quantity of raw materials they require  physically high strength. This strength can be obtained by increasing electrode diameter.  To produce such big prebaked graphite electrodes may not be feasible. So, self baking Söderberg electrode paste is used to generate necessary electrodes in submerged electric arc furnace applications. Södeberg paste is a mixture of calcined anthracite  and coal tar pitch. At an elevated temperature these two raw materials are mixed. Coal tar pitch binds the anthracite and they form a paste. This paste is casted into desired shaped moulds according to the application and it solidifies. According to ferroalloy produced, 20-45 kg of electrode paste is consumed to produce one ton of alloy.
