Consmin, a leading manganese ore producer with mining operations in Australia and Ghana, announces its annual results for the year ended 31 December 2014.

Two of the three smelters at the Machadodorp complex had already been closed. The decision to close the last, first reported by the Metal Bulletin, was confirmed to Miningmx by Jan Steenkamp, CEO of strategic services and exploration.

According to the statistics of Japan Customs, Japan’s ferroalloy export volume was 20,278 mt in Jan, 2015, down by 17% M-O-M and down by 18.7% Y-O-Y. The exported materials were mainly ferronickel with export volume at 19202 mt in Jan 2015

Ferrex had finalised an accelerated start-up production plan for the 250 000 t/y project, which would deliver manganese ore production and near-term cash flow within eight months of commissioning.

Production overview In 2014, manganese ore production was slightly lower and the output of ferroalloys was 2.6% lower than in 2013.

World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 133 million tonnes (Mt) in January 2015, a -2.9% decrease compared to January 2014.
