Vale's Co Output Increases

[Ferro-Alloys.com] Vale’s cobalt production rose 8% in the second quarter to 693 mt compared to 640 mt in the same 2011 quarter. Production in the first half was 5% higher at 1,285 mt compared to 1,221 mt in the first half of 2011. Vale New Caledonia (VNC) produced 177 mt of cobalt in the second quarter compared to 114 mt in the year-ago quarter. VNC’s first-half production was 217 mt compared to 136 mt. Second-quarter production compared to the year before rose at Sudbury to 166 mt compared to 57 mt but fell at Voisey’s Bay to 316 mt in the second quarter compared to 410 mt in the second quarter of 2011.
