Sandvik and beamIt group announced on April 20, 2021 the introduction of super duplex stainless steel (Osprey 2507 metal powder, an alloy with both mechanical strength and high corrosion resistance). The powder printed components show excellent corrosion resistance and durability. Even before post-processing, the print unit is almost completely compact (& gt; 9%) and crack free, with excellent mechanical properties, which helps to improve the durability of the components and enable them to withstand harsh conditions. Sandvik and beamIt believe that additive manufacturing plays an important role in the marine field, which can provide spare parts on demand and reduce inventory and material waste.

Sandvik is also working with equinor and Eureka pumps in Norway to use Osprey ® 2507 material is developing a new impeller, and other projects in the marine field are also in progress.

Mikael schuisky, vice president of additive manufacturing and business manager of Sandvik, said Sandvik was the first company to provide 3D printing super two-way stainless steel components to the market. The printed components not only meet the standard, but also surpass some traditional manufacturing products of the same kind.

Michele antolotti, engineering and R & D Manager of beamIt group, pointed out that printing parameters have been developed for single laser machines, and now joint products are gradually expanded to expand the scope of application. She also said that with Sandvik's deep material expertise and beamIt group's market leading ability in the whole value-added value chain, the two companies have unique advantages in providing a series of key businesses in component key performance and timely production for offshore industry.

Osprey ® 2507 is a kind of super duplex stainless steel, belonging to austenite ferrite stainless steel, with excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, which is specially used for additive manufacturing. Sandvik has been leading the material development of duplex stainless steel for decades, constantly introducing new duplex and super duplex materials to improve performance. Sandvik's super duplex stainless steel has been successfully used in corrosive environments such as offshore energy and chemical industry. Up to now, ultra dual phase steel is mainly used in seamless pipe, plate and bar.
