[Fellow]Indonesia worried that the anti-dumping investigation would influence steel trade swith China

[ferro-alloys.com]On June 22nd, China Taiyuan Iron and Steel Co,.Ltd submitted application to Chinese Ministry of Commerence for investigation of anti-dumping by Asia and Europe countries. It was supported by four large steel enterprises.

On July 23rd, the Ministry of Commerence announced that they would make anti-dumping investigation for imported stainless steel billet and imported stainless steel hot rolled plate/coil made by Indonesia, Japan, South Koera and Europe Union.

According to the report from Indonesia, Chinese Foreign Ministry will make investigation for the charge of exporting rebar and steel plants at lower prices by Indonesia, Japan, South Koera in domestic market.

On July 31st, according to the report from Antaranews.com, Chinese Foreign Ministry would make sure whether the imported steel materials were from Indonesia, Japan, South Koera and Europe Union or not. Besides, they would ensured whether these products were similar to the products made by Taiyuan Iron & Steel. What’s more, Chinese Foreign Ministry would try to find out the influences of these products in the local steel industry. They would also try to master the latest situation of all steel export countries.

Although the export volume of Indonesian steel products was relative small, most of them had came to China. If it was proved that Indonesia dumped their crude steel and steel products in China, China would reduce the amount of Indonesian imported steel products and semi-finished steel, even stopped importing above products.

China, U.S.A, and Japan are the Indonesia’s largest steel importing countries. Indonesia worried that they could not control the importing of Chinese steel and semi-finished steel. In fact, Indonesia still needs to import a large amount of crude steel. In May,Airlangga Hartarto, the minister of trade said that Indonesia needed more than 14 million tons crude steels, and the local steel plants could only supply  8 million tons crude steels.

“In order to reduct the imported steel volume, Indonesia should raise their own steel capability. “Airlangga said. According to the report from Okezone.com,” if the current situation goes on, and the capability is not improved, the supply gap of curde steel will be 8.9 million tons in 2020, and the gap will be 15.9 tons in 2025.”
