American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that the U.S. imported a total of 3,079,000 net tons (NT) of steel in January 2022.

For the month of January 2022, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,757,672 net tons, a 1.4 percent decrease from the 7,871,639 net tons shipped in the previous month, December 2021.

The country mainly bought steel from China, with 5 million tonnes valued at 4.38 billion USD, accounting for 40.3 percent and 38 percent of the total volume and turnover, respectively.
