Iron and steel scrap is a general designation of the ferrous scrap which is recovered from useless metals. It is a very important material for steelmaking. The global consumption of iron and steel scrap reaches 400Mtin 2003. The main resource of scrap is distributed in the areas with developed iron and steel industry, such as North America, EFTA, Russia, East Asia (Japan, Korea and Taiwan) and Australia. The scrap resource in China is becoming abundant as steel industry develops.
